This seems like a good place so far tbh
I’m trying to
I’ve been on Lemmy and off Reddit since RIF died. Hope it grows, but so far it doesn’t replace the reason I used reddit. The frontpage/hot posts are similar and even better than Reddit. But I never cared about those on Reddit anyway, they were mostly junk content that I didn’t care about. Reddit was great because you could find a highly active niche community for ANYTHING. Find a new show you like? There’s a subreddit with deep discussions of every episode, and fan theories about hidden details. Are you a scientist with a specific field who wants to stay up to date on new research in your field? Well the subreddit for your field is filled with other scientists discussing newly published research.
If course I don’t expect Lemmy to be able to do that immediately. That requires a huge userbase and years of time building these small communities. Hope Lemmy can do it, pissed that Reddit already did it and now is trying to ruin it
Yep. I was on Reddit for 12+ years, and used Apollo for many years recently. I never used “new” Reddit or the official app. Quit and uninstalled Apollo a few days before the 1st.
Lemmy feels like home. And the fediverse concept is super interesting to me.
Yes ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
LemmyLenny!
Wait, what is this feature? Are they linked somehow?
Go to whichever comment/post on a lemmy instance you’re trying to comment on and copy the link in that little colorful icon below/above the comment/post (that’s the fediverse icon and the fediverse-wide interoperable link).
Then just paste that into your search field on your mastodon instance, and the rest is self-explanatory from there.
Yeah, literally un-installed RIF the moment I heard about reddit bs. RIF was reddit to me, so I’m done with that now. Pretty much the only time I open that site now is when I Google “whatever whatever reddit” to find actually useful answers.
In addition to uninstalling the client (RIF), you should poison your Reddit posts, and then delete your account.
unfortunately you can’t automate it anymore, right? I have waaaaay too many comments there to do it manually
Power Delete Suite still works AFAIK: https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite
Thought about it, but I never really posted at all so there’s not much to poison. I may end up running a script that edits all of my comments to something redirecting them here, but Idk if I have the motivation to do so anytime soon.
I won’t be able to fully replace it, I’m afraid. Not before communities gain the ability for their posts to not show up in high traffic feeds.
Some subreddits I follow have this set, but this is not yet implemented in Lemmy if I’m not mistaken. So a workable move to Lemmy for them is not possible at this moment.
Yes. Fuck reddit
Yes
This all made me realize while I had a reddit account for awhile, I never truly was on it much at all until I discovered Boost. Then it became a daily part of my life. Looking forward to the new Boost while I check out the other apps.
The creator of boost is making a Lemmy app. I’m very excited to see it. I loved boost
Ahhhh! My eye! I’m not supposed to get pudding in it!
Pretty much. I’ll def never log in again.
Yes. Trying at least; (imo) Lemmy hasn’t quite got the critical mass yet. The official Reddit app is so crappy that each time I find myself being drawn back in, I leave really quickly. I didn’t expect me to find it that bad.
Tgeres old reddit. I refuse to use their app is was so terrible.
Partially… It’s similar situation that I have with Twitter and Mastodon. Simply, there are subreddits that not have (yet) the equivalent on Lemmy or refused to move to Lemmy (or moved to Radle)
Yep, easiest choice ever and the tech behind Lemmy and activity pub is so cool
