Reading the Communist Manifesto.
Everybody should also know that the Communist Manifesto is different from Marx’s magnum opus Capital.
Yes comrade!
It’s like I’ve been waiting for this question for 8 years.
Good stuff
To live a hate free life, don’t spend time hating things and people.
Hate is not a feeling it’s an action. Just stop, and then you’re not a source of hate any more.
This though is easy to say but not do. I’m not a hateful person but its not so simple as flipping a switch. Unfortunately.
You act as if all hate is bad. It isn’t.
But child molesters exist…
Conversely, love is also an action, not a feeling.
Except for Nazis. Always hate those guys.
If you want to hate Nazis, you must be ready for the negative effects of hate on your mental health.
If you are cramped for storage space for cleaning supplies, you can buy and hang a shoe cubby on the back of a closet door and use it to store all sorts of things.
There’s different types, such as ones that are actual racks and others that are pockets like this:
I have a hanging on pole inside closet type that has socks, underwear and winter gloves/scarves/hats
We use one like you have pictured essentially as a medicine cabinet.
More tip: Make sure the hooks will fit over the door when it closes.
The pockets tear so easily,do not expect them to last more than a few months if you are placing anything heavier than a pair of slippers or flip-flops in them.
If you have a toilet that, when flushed, turns your shower into lava, adjust the toilet filler valve so it’s barely open and you’ll have much less of a problem.
Also, if the water coming out of your faucet is hot enough to harm you, turn down the temperature of your water heater. You will save quite a bit of money too.
Edit: and check the anode in your water heater every 5-ish years. So much cheaper and easier to replace that than the entire tank. Pay attention to your water heater.
Just commenting to say you cannot simply lower the water temperature. If you go too low there is a risk of legionella and nobody wants that. So please, before you lower your water temperature, do some research.
I believe 60 degrees is basically the lowest you can go safely. Different sources seem to indicate that.
What about on demand heaters?
Absolutely correct. However, I’ve lived in apartments where I couldn’t control the water heater temperature and other people might be in the same situation who might benefit.
Got some domed glass pot lids but the one you need broke? Simply invert the handle on the next size up and you get a universal lid that fits any pan! Condensation pools in the middle instead of dripping over the sides.
You can also use a large plate the same way.
I’ve tried that but the plate gets hot and you don’t have a handle
Handle of lid touches bottom of pan :(
This exactly
That’s why he said to invert the handle, like take it off and reattach on what would normally be the bottom of the lid. Like it’s inside out.
Ahh I get it now. My lids have handles that are riveted on so I can’t do that :( goodwill has a hundred lids missing pans tho I can get one there for a buck
I just use a large and a small universal lid with silicone edges! They’ve replaced all of my mismatched lids.
Quality 👍
Nobody who bike commutes is fat.
Sadly that’s not entirely true
Also, correlation is not causation. Biking with extra weight to move is harder.
I’m fat and I bike to work.
Buying lots of identical pairs of socks massively reduces the amount of time you need to find matching pairs after drying them.
I buy the same pairs from Costco. Problem is every year they change the pattern on the bottom. 2 gray bars next year solid next year 3 bars.
Same sock but dammit I have to get the matching bars.
Is it just me or did the Costco socks used to last way longer?
I’ve never gotten Costco socks, but when I was researching the best pair of socks to get for my dad, everyone was raving over them, comparing them to the Darn Tough brand. If they’re not holding up like that anymore, then that’s unfortunate because I was really looking forward to trying them out some day.
I did this, and it was great at first. Then I needed more socks, so I bought another batch. Then I had a mix of worn socks and brand new socks. They might look the same at first, but if you take a closer look, the older ones are a little lighter in color and the texture isn’t the same. I later bought a third batch. So now I have a mix of new, old, and really old socks. It actually takes more effort to match socks now than when I had many different socks.
I see this advice posted all the time, so I guess most people don’t care if their socks on each foot are a different level of worn, but it bothers me.
In that case you could buy very visibly different socks from all the ones you have every time, eg blue vs white vs black vs beige. That also makes it easy to find matching pairs.
I had the same problem as you with different states of wear/color over time. So the last time I bought a whole bag of matching socks, when I first took out each pair I put a matching mark on the inside surface of each sock (like 1 dot, 2 dots, 3 in a row, 3 in a triangle, different color mark, etc). So then I can easily pair them all up correctly after I do the laundry.
I’m at this point too. I think the next step is to just declare sock bankruptcy again and throw everything out and start over.
Getting a Shavette. The prospect of it being sharper than a straight razor makes you think that you will slice your face off, but in my experience at worst I had a nick or 2. The blades are dirt cheap and perform better than multi bladed razors.
A nice bonus is you have no plastic waste.
What’s a shavette? Is that like a brand or particular type of double edge safety razor?
It’s a straight razor with replaceable blades
Or is it a non safety razor?
safety razor is the way to go imo. Same benefits of a shavette but easier to use and harder to cut yourself
I’ve been getting ads for Henson razors -Not an endorsement! I know nothing about safety razors- . But the idea of not buying razor cartridges anymore is attractive, provided I’m not cutting myself all the time. But supposedly this sort is less likely to cut me, even if I’m a klutz?
I started with a $15 double edge safety razor that I used for years. I bought the $70 Henson razor because I wanted a better shave, but the results are about the same as the $15 razor I started with. The Henson razor glides better so I can get the same quality shave with less time. I can also shave twice (one across the grain once against) if I want a better shave, but it still isn’t the smooth shave I was hoping for. The henson razor came with 100 blades, but you can also get 100 blades for $10 on amazon.
I just discovered the best hack, I changed the app layout on my home screen (android) to 5x5 what a game changer.
I never changed mine, cause I didnt know it could be changed. I can’t go back now, Thank you for pointing it out!
Everyone uses something less than Xx5? Damn. Poor folks. :(
I’m pretty sure the default is 4 and the vast majority of smartphone users will never even change this setting.
For sure. Poor folks dont know how bad they have it.
(Except for seniors, they probably need the bigger symbols and selection zones)
😂 I remember the my first time too.
That’s been my default for actual years.
Mine is like 6x8 currently… Is there any special benefit to an odd number I am missing or just the extra realestate from going to larger numbers?
6 wide? Damn, I couldn’t dream of that… Must be heaven. Honestly no benefit to odd numbers the bigger the better but with my screen size I can’t go any bigger than 5x5
Thanks to you I changed my layout from 4x6 to 5x6 and my life will never be the same. Thank you.
The simple things in life can be so satisfying…good to hear your enjoying it too.
When given the option, read the instructions, and save for future reference. (A URL / bookmark doesn’t count as saving unless you control the hostname (including DNS).)
Agreed. I also paraphrase the instructions in my own words to make them easier to follow later on.
I have a plastic container where I put all instruction manuals plus hardware that comes with it that I don’t need right then. It was very useful when I decided to mount my soundbar a decade after I bought it and knew exactly where the mounting clips and template were. Any time I need to check the manual for specs or something, I just need to look through a pile and will find it.

What’s Carfax?
Carfax
It’s a reporting system for vehicles so that the next owners of a vehicle know its repair history. It will also tell you if any loans or leins are placed against the vehicle, so you don’t get screwed. Car Facts.
It’s a thing in Canada, and I think the USA
Can confirm, it’s also a thing in the US.
To stop infinite scroll on social media, quickly scroll 2-3 screen lengths down without looking at the posts. Now read the posts scrolling up. Eventually you’ll reach where you started and most probably the laziness to go all the way back will prompt you to exit the app.
That’s amazing!
Now give me a tip to prevent myself from opening the same app immediately after hahaha
I changed the icon location, and my muscle memory still was trying to open them from the previous location, basically in a complete auto-pilot mode. That led me to a realization of how fucked up the situation was, and eventually helped me uninstall/reduce screen time of those apps.
With how fast phones start up nowadays, that’s hardly a pain
New tip: Install bloatware to make it slower
For some reason I always have a habit of scroll to the bottom of any list and reading up. Like I wanna confirm how long the list is before working my way up

A ghetto bidet:
3D print it, or take a small softdrink bottle, make a hole in it’s neck using a hot needle or corkscrew. Fill it with water, hold it upside down and squirt your butthole clean with it. Use a little toiletpaper or cloth to dab it dry. Can’t live without it anymore.
Lips and buttholes share the same type of skin tissue. If it doesn’t hurt your lips it won’t hurt the other end of the tube. :)
i don’t know if it’s a life hack or not but it should be. if you can’t lose weight go on the carnivore diet.
Cold shower for a dopamine hit
Youll lose weight possibly but thats a great way to end up dead by heart disease at a stupidly young age.
I thought the same thing to but I’m not so sure any more… I was a vegan for years…but that was killing me, so I did carnivore out of desperation and it worked
Vegan isnt for everyone, although as the other poster said there are different ways to vegan. But, people need to allow that not everyone has a body that can handle every kind of diet.
I’m vegan so I just rather like not having to worry about all of the negative side effects of meat and dairy, but there are degrees to things, and a healthy diet could potentially include meat and dairy.
I dont actually know the carnivore diet that well, so I based what I said on the assumption that you would be consuming so much cholesterol containing food that it couldn’t possibly NOT have an adverse affect on your life.
Could I ask if you could be more specific on what caused you to change from vegan? More of a curiosity for me than anything.
check my comments below, i don’t want to say some potentially unwavering stuff that doesn’t have the science to back it up, but check it out I was quite shocked to find out all the health benefits that came with it… for example my body is so much more resilient I hurt my shoulder and now it’s healed up completely after being on this diet for 4-5 months.
Kind of hard to believe, it worked for me thats all I’m saying, as for the cholesterol stuff our brains our made up of 20% cholesterol if i’m not mistaken so I mean having zero cholesterol i don’t think is the way to go, it’s there for a reason. Cheers brother! All the best no matter which way you live, whatever makes you happy and healthy.
Do you get regular cholesterol tests? I imagine if done in a certain way, with lean meat (high protein, low carb, low-ish fat diet), it could work OK. Vegan can also be healthy, if done properly. I’ve been vegan for about 5 years (switched because my cholesterol was a biy high), and have only noticed positive effects.
yes I just got a test done, yes it’s high but it’s the ratio that matters (or so I’m told)
Im not the guy to try to red pill people, but yea look into the the whole cholesterol stuff like in this book:
or also Shawn Baker MD on Youtube. I literally couldn’t believe this stuff either but it’s worth having a look into. I’m not saying one or the other is better it entirely depends on the person and body type etc…
It appears the doctor that co-wrote that book was a quack or grifter that associated himself with other grifters like Dr Oz and The Doctors, and advocated for “alternate health practices” that have no evidence of being helpful (and that sound absurd): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Sinatra
For stuff like this, I usually try to find the most recent meta-analysis that looks reputable. For example: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9316578/
If I understand it correctly, it says people with total cholesterol above reference levels have a 27% increase in risk of cardiovascular mortality, people with high LDL have a 21% increase, and people with high HDL have 40% decrease in risk.

ok your missing the point of it tho, i’m sure you’ve seen people that are over weight? they get this way because they can’t control there hunger pains, carnivore diet will leave you feeling full 100% of the time and eating 80-90% less… I hardly believe that people who are eating junkfood and a bunch of carbs (and 100s of pounds overweight) are less at risk than someone eating properly on a carnivore diet.
Hunger pains are real, it’s not as easy to control as you’d think. I remember waking up in the middle of the night to have to run to grab a jar of peanut butter i was so starving…it’s sad really and it’s not for everyone ofc most people don’t have that problem.
A ghetto bidet. I love it.
The noise from squeezing the bottle especially in any public place… For 30 to 40 you can get a cold water bidet that hooks into your toilet water. But it is worth it to go heated water and heated dry. Hell even heated seat. Its worth the spend.
Yeah, after years of using the Ghetto Bidet I installed a cold water bidet next to the toilet upstairs. It uses way more water but I love it as well. I don’t need or want any more luxury, heating stuff is a line I won’t cross. It’s much more expensive, fault-prone and my butt likes the cold water kick. Saves me a coffee or two every day. :)
Saves me a coffee or two. That’s pretty good lol.

When I was in the end of my PhD, everything except writing my thesis made me feel guilty. I ended up learning to find joy and peace in doing laundry and washing dishes. They became my guilt-free breaks — I had to do these things. FYI - I didn’t enjoy washing dishes before.
Washing dishes has become a really powerful part of my day, haha. Not only is it still a guilt-free break but it is a daily reminder to be mindful. I’ve noticed that whenever I drop and break a dish, my mind is not present. In fact, in those moments my mind might actually be drifting somewhere negative.
Maybe not so much a “hack” as a … lesson? Or something? But yeah, the whole cliche about having the right attitude and being present and mindful. I try to apply it in other parts of life, not just the dishes.
This is a great way to think. Some people are so frustrated with waiting in line at the bank or market. For me, it’s just another unintended break where I get to relax.
You have discovered the subtle art of procrasticleaning
Tidying up makes the world go round.
Yeah I was like wow I am so enlightened for the first part of the response and then I was like oh my god I am so seen. I. Am. The. Best. At. Doing. The. Second. Most. Important. Thing. I. Need. To. Do.
I call that productive procrastination.
The flip side of this is productive procrastination, where you do all the menial tasks before doing the task you don’t want to do. Generally you aren’t even aware you’re doing and most people can go their entire lives never knowing the term exists, and yet they’ll do it all the time.
You can’t fix a problem you can’t identify.
You’re welcome and I’m sorry.
this is how all the cleaning in my house gets done.
What do you do when you have identified the problem? :)
everything except … made me feel guilty learning to find joy guilty free breaks
How‽ This is perhaps the single most impactful problem I’ve in my life. I just don’t know how to beat this. I don’t end up doing anything else because I could be doing my thesis. But I also don’t do my thesis. Could you talk a bit more about how you got out of this line of thinking? Between this and ADHD I feel like I’m going suicidal. I haven’t had a vacation/gap/break ever where I’ve felt free and happy to enjoy.
Honestly, I still haven’t fully solved the problem. I wish I could give you a great answer.
Sometimes I have no struggles working and taking breaks, other times I fall into this same trap you’ve just described. I think it amounts to a lot of different factors — some weird paradoxical mix of procrastination, fear, insecurity, passion, displeasure, and overconfidence.
I’ve learned, though, to accept certain tasks as completely necessary in life (like doing the dishes) so that I am able to do them guilt free. At least I can do that. I feel you though. In a general sense, I still struggle with the problem.
I think part of it amounts to making a decision and sticking to it rather than being on the fence. Maybe that’s discipline? E.g., “this morning I will go on a run, make a nice breakfast, wash the dishes, get started on laundry, read or play music for a bit, and then finally I will sit down to work.” Then, when actually executing the first part of the plan, just ignore the ever living fuck out of any feeling of guilt. But, again, I am still putting that into practice.
Good luck to you and me.
Thanks for the reply :)
Yeah, I think it does boil down to accepting the situation and just doing it. Or forcing the self to do it after rounds of negotiations and arguments. One problem that I see with this- at least for myself- is that it leads to me doing just the bare minimum and then subsequently getting mad. I don’t really know, I’m also trying to figure things out for myself. Maybe medication is the answer
