I don‘t know what sync for lemmy is. And at this point, I‘m afraid to ask!
Sync for reddit was a great 3rd party app for browsing reddit. Since 3rd party apps were ousted from reddit the dev repurposed his app for Lemmy. I’ve been using it today and so far it is fantastic. There are some ads, but at the moment it’s the best Lemmy app on the market as far as UI goes imho.

I am using it right now. Moments ago I was reading a post on a DnD community and had to do a double take, it felt like I was on Reddit, but it was just a bout of nostalgia after years of using Sync for Reddit.
The familiarity, the gorgeous material UI, but now with 100% less spez!!

It really is uncanny. I’ve gone back to the official app a handful of times but the experience is so much worse.
This is a great experience for Lemmy and I hope this will encourage more people to start using the platform.

Just got it myself. Replying from Sync!
Only a month and a half using other apps for lemmy has made me forget how great sync is.
And i restored the settings from a backup i made from the reddit client. 😅
Oh man, did that work? I was going to do that, but I thought, nah, they’re unlikely to be compatible! Amazing.
Yeah it worked for me i restored the backup file and my app was automatically setup just like the reddit one. What i did was to logout my reddit account before backing up.
It’s like having Reddit back, this is amazing. 🙏
For as long as I can remember Reddit and Sync have been one and the same. I never used Reddit website or app, only ever used Sync to browse Reddit hosted content. I used it a lot. I’ve missed it a lot.
Between the Lemmy platform and Sync client, to all intents and purposes what Reddit was has been fully restored/migrated.
I know it’s early days, but I did not expect to see anything like this so soon and it gives me hope that Lemmy can grow and thrive into the network of people that always made Reddit what it was. Everything that’s needed is there - early, a little rough around the edges, but there. And being improved constantly.

And it’s such a good feeling to know that what happened to Reddit can never happen again!
