Not a movie, but One Piece.
Not pirates, but Jurassic Park
My first thought was Pirate Latitudes, a book written by Michael Chricton, author of Jurassic Park. Never saw a movie adaptation but he is the Stephen King of sci fi, so maybe someday. Also my favorite book of his, despite what others may say
Not great, but Captain Kidd and the Slave Girl
The Goonies.
Treasure planet
Not a movie, but the series Black Sails is one of the most underrated shows I’ve ever watched. I watch it every year now, since around 2019.
The Princess Bride.
Inconceivable
You keep using that word. I don’t think it means what you think it means.
“Have you ever considered piracy? You’d make a wonderful Dread Pirate Roberts.”
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. As with The Matrix it’s a pity that they never made any sequels.
If you like a pirate {and what right thinking person doesn’t?) then you should click this link to the Internet Archive to watch Captain Kidd with Charles Laughton having any amount of fun as magnificent bastard William Kidd.
Muppet Treasure Island
Oh yeah I totaly forgot about that movie, now the memories come flooding in.
That was back in the days when you had brutal kids movie. Caption killing his crew, I think they tortured a few muppets etc… But it has fun songs so it was all good.
There’s a Muppet Treasure Island?!
Thank you!
And it has Tim Curry!
There’s a blast from the past!
I’ve got cabin fever!
I’ve got it toooo!
He’s got one leg, Jim. Count 'em: …one…
Going off on a whim and gonna say Aguirre, The Wrath of God
Spanish conquistadors getting their shit handed to them so only loosely pirates but pirates in spirit.
That may be the porn/softcore flick by Digital Playground and Adam & Eve, circa 2005. Was a solid renter at the video store I ran. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0477457/
The original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy with the original cast slaps. I forgot how good those films were until I rewatched them over lockdowns but they all hold up super well. So, any one of those movies.
Yeah all of the other are great but Pirates of the caribean is by far the best movie about pirates.
One of my all-time favorites. We had it on VHS as a kid and would watch it all the time.
I still randomly sing “Hook, Hook, give us the Hook!”
Bangarang!
Well now that song’s stuck in my head
I’m eatin’ Fun Dip right now.
… you lewd, crude, rude bag of pre-chewed food dude.
Substitute math teacher
Nearsighted gynecologist
I still say “Rufio! Rufio!” almost every time I see a picture or mention of Dante Brasco, which is more frequently than you might think since ATLA is one of my comfort/background shows.
No love for The Pirates! Band of Misfits?
Stardust isn’t entirely pirate themed, but the part with Robert De Niro as crossdressing sky-pirate is absolutely glorious.
The Ice Pirates.
Wrong movie.
Plus one for Ice Pirates. It gave us Space Herpes
People have said the pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. I want to specifically call out the first movie. It was a pure love letter to old pirate movies, and you get to see Jack sparrow actually be clever and serious, before he was flanderized into funny dirt jar man. The two sequels are fun, but each one took a notable drop in character writing for cheap gags.
It’s basically the same thing that happened to Homer Simpson. The original did dumb things but never intended for things to fail or to be evil. Of course it is easier to write cheap gags if you throw all of that out of the window.
“Flanderize” refers directly to a Simpsons character (Ned Flander).
